Energy Optimisation

Energy optimisation has been among Balslev's core competencies for a long time. We have implemented a wide range of energy saving projects with very short pay back times.

Our energy consultants are committed to optimise energy consumption in large buildings with both simple and more complicated installations. In close co-operation with the users and the owners’ heads of operations or technical departments, we have implemented a very large number optimisation projects where we achieved significant energy savings with short pay back times.

Construction of administration buildings, institutions etc.

As a rule, we strive to identify and recommend the least energy demanding solutions for new constructions, retrofits plus modernisation of buildings and technical installations – without compromising on the indoor climate or other functional requirements.

In connection with the energy labelling of large buildings we often identify opportunities for obvious energy savings, and present these together with specific operational suggestions for solutions.

Energy optimisation in hospitals

In hospitals the amount and complexity of technical installations is vast. Furthermore, a number of complex installations, all related to the buildings’ functions and the hospitals’ special needs, are very energy demanding, e.g.:

  • Ventilation systems for surgery
  • X-ray
  • Laboratories
  • Cooling systems
  • Compressed air equipment etc.

It is our experience that the most significant opportunities for energy saving are related to these types of systems and equipment. Therefore we often screen for energy optimisation possibilities related to process systems and, as a result, have pinpointed a long list of self-financing energy saving measures, which have yielded a positive return on investment already during the first year.

Industrial companies etc.

The complexity of technical functions within industrial companies is often quite high. Production processes are often very energy demanding, and larage amounts of energy are used for technical auxiliary equipment such as ventilation systems, cooling systems, drying processes, high-pressure air systems, pumps, transport systems etc.

In these areas we often experience that there are significant possibilities for implementing energy saving measures with short pay back times – despite the fact that the cost of energy for process purposes is lower than for energy used for “comfort purposes”, like e.g. heating.

Mandatory energy savings

Owners of public buildings are obligated to implement any energy saving projects with a pay back time of < 5 years.
